The access impedance of low-voltage (LV) power networks is a major factor related to the performance of the narrow-band power line communications (NB-PLCs) and, in a wider sense, to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) performance. Up to date, there is still a lack of knowledge about the frequency-dependent access impedance for frequencies above 9 kHz and up to 500 kHz, which is the band where the NB-PLC operates. The access impedance affects the transmission of the NB-PLC signal, and it determines the propagation of the non-intentional emissions that may disturb other electrical devices, including malfunctioning or reduced lifetime of equipment. This paper presents the results of field measurements of the LV access impedance up to 500 kHz in different scenarios, with measurement locations close to end users and near transformers. The results provide useful information to analyze the characteristics of the LV access impedance, including variation with frequency, ranges of values for different frequency bands, and analysis of specific phenomena. Moreover, the results reveal a diverse frequency-dependent behavior of the access impedance in different scenarios, depending on the grid topology, the number of end users (that is, number and type of connected loads), and the type of transformation center. Overall, the results of this paper offer a better understanding of the transmission of NB-PLC signals and EMC-related phenomena. The authors would like to thank Iberdrola for the availability and the collaboration of authorized staff for carrying out the field trials

The redox processes, organic substances accumulation, chemical equilibria and adsorption of organic substances on the substrate surface function of natural water compositions and substrate granule sizes have been investigated. Laboratory simulations have been carried out for the Nistru and Isnovat river waters. The natural water models containing laurylsulphate (LS) as anionic surfactant (SAS An) and cetyltrimethylammonium (CTMA) as cationic surfactant (SAS Ct), separately and in a body, as well as the substrates Al(OH)3, Al2O3, CaCO3, H2SiO3, light fraction (clayey) of diatomite and expanded clay powder have been studied. The timely distribution of the soluble nitrogen species containing NH4+, NO2- and NO3- in the samples of natural waters has been analyzed. It has been found that LS diminishes the redox processes braking due to the partial fixation of toxic organic matter. Similar, but more pronounced enhancement impact on oxidation of nitrite ions as a result of fixation and sedimentation of organic components has been found in the case of the calcium carbonate powder. Also, CaCO3 produces a better SAS Ct separation/inactivation of organic part in the presence of both anionic and cationic SASs. A water self-purification processes effectiveness in polluted river waters decreases in the CaCO3, Al(OH)3, Al2O3, H2SiO3, light fraction (clayey) of diatomite, expanded clay powder substrate series

The concept of Fair Value is increasingly relevant in the corporate world. For several years that listed companies in Europe and in the U.S. take this concept into consideration when preparing their financial statements, namely when measuring some assets and liabilities such as Financial Assets and Financial Liabilities, Goodwill and Biological Assets. In order to better understand how companies actually fulfil the requirements established by International Standards, this dissertation focuses on the 14 non-financing companies in the PSI 20 and on the accounting treatment of goodwill, addressing specifically the way the companies translates into its financial statements the concept of Fair Value, as well as the methodology used to estimate goodwill and the corresponding recoverable amount. Finally, this dissertation aims to realize the impact that decisions made about the goodwill value in use have the net result of these companies and the consequent impact on the share price.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Business model innovation for sustainable value creation in construction companies

    Get PDF
This paper aimed to analyze how innovations in the business model contribute to creating sustainable value in construction companies. The results revealed that analyzed companies implement practices that enhance their reputation and contribute to the environment while securing economic benefits. These practices include material reuse and replacing traditional processes with renewable ones (installing photovoltaic panels and rainwater harvesting). Companies also have tried to integrate with the community through sponsorships, primarily in sports and cultural events, and assistance to homes for the elderly and needy educational institutions. Companies need to implement processes that contribute to the rational use of water and waste reduction during construction projects despite the results. Furthermore, this study has the importance of identifying actions that are oriented towards generating benefits for society and the environment and analyzing them from the perspective of the creation of sustainable value from innovations in the business model

Imposex, an endocrine disruption phenomenon, is a biomarker of tributyltin (TBT) exposure in marine gastropod populations. The occurrence and intensity of the syndrome in populations of the neogastropod Stramonita haemastoma were ascertained at nine sampling stations in October 2008 at Arraial do Cabo, a very important tourist resort in Rio de Janeiro state (Brazil) and part of the Marine Extractive Reserve of Arraial do Cabo. The results obtained made it possible to evaluate the changes which had occurred since the last biomonitoring campaign, undertaken in 2001, at these same stations. Despite the ban on the use of TBT imposed by the Brazilian Navy in 2003, the controls on the use of this agent in Brazil resulting from the establishment of NORMAM 23 by the Navy in 2007 and the complete ban of organotin compounds in antifouling paint formulae by the IMO on a global scale in 2008, imposex was still detected. Instead of the expected reduction, an increase was observed in the areas affected by imposex. Furthermore, populations in the areas seriously affected by imposex in 2001 were absent in the 2008 sampling campaign. These results suggest an increase in TBT pollution in the study area, indicating the inefficacy of legislative measures

Functional Integral Bosonization for Impurity in Luttinger Liquid

    Get PDF
We use a functional integral formalism developed earlier for the pure Luttinger liquid (LL) to find an exact representation for the electron Green function of the LL in the presence of a single backscattering impurity. This allows us to reproduce results (well known from the bosonization techniques) for the suppression of the electron local density of states (LDoS) at the position of the impurity and for the Friedel oscillations at finite temperature. In addition, we have extracted from the exact representation an analytic dependence of LDoS on the distance from the impurity and shown how it crosses over to that for the pure LL.Comment: 7 pages, 1 LaTeX produced figur

School Adjustment is considered to be an outstanding factor in order to understand and give a pshycoeducational response to the growing problems of academic failure, truancy and cohabitation in the classroom. Self-concept has likewise an essential role in students’adjustment. The aims of this study are to analyse the relationship among Academic and Global dimensions of Self-concept and School Adjustment’s scales; to examine the differences in School Adjustment, as well as in Academic and Global Self-concept, according to the students’gender and age; and to check predictive ability of Academic and Global Self-concept on School Adjustment. 1468 students participated in this studybetween 11 and 17 years of age (M=14.03; SD= 1.36), 51% women and 49% men. The Brief Scale of School Adjustment (EBAE) and the Multidimensional Self-Concept Questionnaire (AUDIM) were implemented. The School Adjustment keeps significant relationships with the Self-concept. Furthermore, women have been considered to have a larger School Adjustment and Academic Self-concept in oral skills, while men perceive better the Mathematic and Global Self-concept. Besides, the Self-concept and the School Adjustment are larger in the early adolescence than in the middle adolescence. Finally, the Academic and Global Self-concept have a high and moderate predictive ability about the School Adjustment’s dimensions, and the Academic Self-concept a remarkable influence regarding the academic achievement.
